Factoid 414 - Who has the 5th best all time Wonderlic score for an NFL Prospect?
Date: 3/3/15
Kevin Curtis, WR for Utah State, scored a 48 on the Wonderlic, which earned him the honor of the 5th best score on this test in NFL history. He has the best Wonderlic score ever for a wide receiver. Kevin played for the Utah State Aggies from 2001 to 2002. Prior to Utah State Kevin played for the junior college powerhouse Snow College, where he earned Second-Team All-America honors.

His career at Utah State was prolific, where he caught 174 passes for 2,789 yards receiving and scoring 19 touchdowns. In 2001 he was second in receptions in the NCAA and 5th in receiving yards.

“The Wonderlic is a 50-question test administered to all combine participants that measures cognitive ability. The time limit is 12 minutes. A score of 20 is indicative of ‘average’ intelligence and roughly equivalent to an IQ of 100. Apr 12, 2014.” - ESPN

Kevin entered the 2003 NFL Draft. In addition to his 48 out of 50 on the Wonderlic, he also recorded a 4.35 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine. As a result of these scores and his college career, Curtis was drafted in the third round, 74th overall pick, by the St. Louis Rams. His career started slowly in NFL due to a broken fibula in this first year. However, he went on to have a very good nine year career in the NFL, totaling 3,297 receiving yards and 20 TDs, not Hall of Fame numbers; but very solid.

In this case the high Wonderlic with physical ability translated to success in the NFL.
