Keith Jackson vs. Kirk Herbstreit: who was/is the better college football announcer? (Titans Clash 68)

Keith Jackson was the mainstay of ABC’s College Football Saturdays for 49 years. Jackson was born on October 18, 1928 and grew up on a farm outside Carrollton, Georgia. As a young man he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1954 he graduated with a degree in speech communications from Washington State University. He started his broadcasting career in 1952. Jackson would go on to be the primary announcer for ABC’s College Football broadcasts. Jackson has retired. His last game was the 2006 Rose Bowl featuring Texas vs. Southern California. Kirk Herbstreit is one of the main announcers for College GameDay on ESPN (along with Lee Corso). Kirk and Lee made College Game Day into what it is today.

Kirk Herbstreit was born August 19, 1969. He played QB for The Ohio State Buckeyes from 1989 to 1992 but only started his senior season. His senior year Kirk led the Buckeyes to a tie vs. the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines were favored. Kirk graduated The Ohio State University with a degree in business administration in 1993.

Kirk started working for ESPN’s College GameDay in 1996 and has been with them ever since. Lee Corso has worked longer for GameDay, since 1987, but this tandem really are responsible for College GameDay’s big success.
