Defensive Tackle Walt Patulski from Notre Dame was the first pick of the 1972 NFL Draft. Walt was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

In 1971 Patulski was an All-American and won the Lombardi Award. He started every game he was eligible for in college. He is on the Notre Dame All-Century team.

Walt played in the NFL for five seasons. His career ended with a serious knee injury.
