Running back Ricky Bell from USC was the first pick of the 1977 NFL Draft. Ricky was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ricky was a Consensus All-American in 1975 and 1976. He finished third in the 1975 Heisman voting and second in the 1976 Heisman voting.

Ricky was drafted first, but Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett was drafted second. Ricky played for six seasons in the NFL and had respectable NFL career. He is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
