Defensive End Lee Roy Selmon from the University of Oklahoma was the first pick of the 1976 NFL Draft. Leroy was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lee Roy led the Sooners to National Championships in 1974 and 1975. In 1974 the Sooners had one of the best defenses in the Sooner history. In 1975 Selmon was a Consensus All-American, and he won the Outland Trophy and the Vince Lombardi Award. Barry Switzer called him the best player he ever coached.
Leroy played in the NFL for 9 seasons and was a six-time Pro-Bowler. He is in the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
