SEC vs. Big Ten 2015

9/5/15-Author: Tali
Historically, the SEC historically has performed better vs. the Big Ten. They lead in such categories as:

  • Overall record SEC vs. Big Ten: 83-57-23
  • Average score: SEC 24.3 - Big 10 21.7
  • Bowl record SEC vs. Big Ten: 46– 8

The one category where the SEC does not rank above in the Big Ten is in National Championships:

    • National Championships SEC vs. Big Ten: 60-75

    • So what about this year? Who has the edge? Is it a long term shift.

Well we will find out pretty early as the 20th ranked Wisconsin Badgers take on the 3rd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at 8 p.m. tonight in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Last year’s Buckeyes win vs. the Crimson Tide in the first ever College Football Playoffs most certainly make it seem like the tides are shifting. Wisconsin beating Auburn in the Outback Bowl also showed a shift in the sands, but were these exceptions rather than the rule?

We think a shift is occurring and paritially due to coaching hires:

      • Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. He built and won at Stanford, as well as had great success in the NFL.
      • Mike Riley at Nebraska. He is long time coach, recruiting success in Texas and California, and also with NFL experience. He is better than Bo Pelini, quite a bit better, Nebraska is not a rebuild, even better for Riley.
      • Paul Chryst at Wisconsin. Chryst has worked has an assistant for Wisconsin, has head coaching FBS experience with Pitt, and his Alma Matter is Wisconsin. Don’t expect things to change too much, but that is good, Wisconsin won’t miss a beat.
      • Tim Beckman was fired that is good for the Big Ten and Illinois but it is too late for the season and the Illini are a rebuild anyway.

Throw those new hires in with Urban Meyer at Ohio State and Mark Dantonio at Michigan State and the Big Ten is poised to take it to the next level. Penn State’s having there sanctions removed has already affected their recruiting a positive manner.

The SEC is pretty much the same as last year; talent wide as well. They flopped in the Bowl Games last year. We think the Big Ten has taken the leap and will be better than the SEC for the next two or three years.
