Running back Earl Campbell from the University of Texas was the first pick of the 1978 NFL Draft. Earl was drafted by the Houston Oilers.
Earl won the Heisman Trophy in 1977, was a consensus All American and led the nation in rushing with 1,744 yards.
Earl was a five-time Pro-Bowler, three-time rushing champion, and lead his team to three playoff appearances, twice making it to the conference championship before losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Earl is in the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
