Trevor Siemian threw for more yards in college than did Cam Newton. Cam Newton threw for 2,908 yards in the FBS division of college football, while Trevor Siemian threw for 5,931 yards.
Cam Newton also played at Blinn College, which is a member of the National Junior College Association. At Blinn Cam threw for 2,833 yards. If you were to include his totals from Junior College he passed for 5,741 yard, which is still less than Trevor Siemian. Actually, Cam also went to Florida, from 2007 to 2008, but only threw for six passes while at Florida. He left Florida because he was in danger of being expelled for academic dishonesty. So Cam only played at the FBS level one year, but he showed enough to be picked the number one draft selection of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Trevor Siemian's college career was much more traditional. He was a backup his freshmen season then he became the starting quarterback and started for three seasons. His college career passing stats are nothing overly impressive: 2,908 yards, 27 TDs, and 24 interceptions. His teams went 20-17. Siemian was rated the 22nd best quarterback in the 2015 NFL Draft, was the 250th overall pick, and was the seventh and final quarterback taken in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Trevor Siemian has been named the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos for the 2016 NFL season, while Cam Newton has been the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers since 2011. Tonight, September 8, 2016, Cam Newton faces off against Trevor Siemian in a “rematch” of last year’s Super Bowl. This should be interesting.
