Jim Harbaugh vs. Urban Meyer: who wins this year?

First of all, we believe Harbaugh will revive this rivalry. This is great news for Michigan and the Big Ten. Will this revive the Ohio State – Michigan rivalry? Will this be Bo vs. Woody Part II? We believe it will, but who wins this year?

Jim Harbaugh’s resume is impressive: four years as QB at Michigan; a 15 year NFL playing career; two head college coaching stints; and four years as head coach in the NFL. In college his coaching record was 58-27, and in the NFL it was 49-22-1. In college the highest his teams finished was fourth in 2010, when Stanford went 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl vs. VA Tech. In the NFL he took the Niners to the Super Bowl, where he lost to his brother, John Harbaugh, and the Baltimore Ravens.

Urban Meyer played defensive back for the Cincinnati Bearcats but did not play beyond that. He started coaching in 1985, when Harbaugh was still playing in college. Meyer has 29 years of coaching experience, whereas Harbaugh has 12 years. They both started head coaching jobs around the same time. Urban has been head coach for Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State. He has never coached in the NFL and has an overall head coaching record of 140-26 for a 84% winning percentage.

So who wins this year? We say Ohio State but in a close game. Harbaugh, his coaches, and players will be ready. Michigan, however, has been down too long and will not have the horses to beat Ohio State this year. On the other hand, Urban Meyer has brought Ohio State to a power position not seen since Woody Hayes. The Buckeyes are landing all the top recruits, developing them, and then with excellent game day strategies dominating. Ohio State still wins this game this year.
