Quarterback Steve Bartkowski from the University of California was the first pick of the 1975 NFL Draft. Steve was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.

In 1974 Steve was an All-American and led the nation in passing.

Steve was chosen ahead of Walter Payton in the 1975 draft. That same year he was won the NFL Rookie of the Year. He was two-time Pro-Bowler and passed for 24,124 yards during his career, not bad, but not a NFL Hall of Fame career like Walter Payton had. Steve had a 12 year NFL career and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
