Coach Bernie Moore was the first LSU coach to win the SEC Championship. Coach Moore’s team won the SEC in 1935 by going 5-0 in the conference and 9-2 overall.

Coach Moore coached LSU from 1935-1947. His teams went 43–28–4. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1952. While Coach Moore won a National Championship in 1935, LSU does not claim that as a championship. He won two SEC Championships in 1935 and 1936, but he was never able to win another although he got close by finishing second two other
