Linebacker Aundray Bruce from Auburn was the first pick of the 1987 NFL Draft. Aundray was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.

Aundray Bruce was a Consensus All-American in 1987. He was All-Southeastern Conference in 1986 and 1987, and the 1987 Citrus Bowl MVP, a game which his team won 16-7. In 1987 against Georgia Tech he intercepted three passes, one for a touchdown, and made 10 unassisted tackles.

Some thought Aundray could be the next Lawrence Taylor. Aundray played in the NFL for eleven seasons, but never lived up to the expectation of being the 1st overall draft pick.
