The 20th century would see 41 schools (Division 1) add college football as a sport. (It also saw the Ivy League schools leave Division 1-A and move down to Division 1-AA in 1982, therefore ending their role in the top college football league, which they started in 1869 and dominated in the 19th century.) 1910 - 1919: Arkansas State Red Wolves; Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders; Louisville Cardinals; Southern Miss Golden Eagles; Memphis Tigers; Rice Owls; North Texas Mean Green; UTEP Miners; SMU Mustangs; Toledo Rockets; UCLA Bruins; and the Bowling Green Falcons.
