Halfback Paul Hornung from the University of Notre Dame was the number pick in the 1957 draft. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers.
He won the Heisman Trophy in 1956* and was an All-American. He holds the distinction of being the only Heisman winner to have played on a losing team as Notre Dame went 2-8 in 1956.
He played in the NFL for nine years. Twice he was a Pro-Bowler and once was the NFL MVP. His teams won four NFL Championships and the first Super Bowl ever played, although Hornung did not play in the Super Bowl due to neck injury.
Paul Hornung is both in the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
* Note: the NFL draft is in the spring after the college season; so, for instance, the 1990 draft corresponds to the 1989 season.
