We have been writing a lot about Cupcake Games. This week we turn to Yawn Fests: extremely low scoring games. We concentrated on the last twenty years of college football, because low scoring games were often the norm throughout College Football history. College Football has most definitely changed to a higher scoring event than even twenty years ago.

There were six games in the last twenty years where only three points were scored. In one game the field goal was scored in overtime, so that is the lowest scoring game in points per minute. The other five games are tied in for 2nd in the lowest points score.

In 2008 the Oregon State Beavers beat the Pitt Panthers in the Sun Bowl by a score of 3-0. This was a rather surprising score given that Oregon State was ranked No. 24 and Pitt was ranked No. 18. A 44-yard field goal by Justin Kahut in the second quarter turned out to be the game winner.
